COMPASS EVALUATIONS

We are delighted to announce the launch of our Compass Evaluations: a unique, comprehensive assessment of your child’s development, cognitive functioning, and mental and behavioral health. Designed by Dr. Kimberley Palmiotto and Dr. Myra Cleary, these assessments address a wide variety of challenges, from learning difficulties to mood and behavior management to keeping up with peers. Read on to learn more about this exciting service!

WHAT ARE COMPASS EVALUATIONS?

Compass Evaluations combine the expertise of Dr. Myra Cleary, a nurse practitioner with expertise in developmental pediatrics, and Dr. Kimberley Palmiotto, an educational psychologist and clinical counselor, to offer a “big picture” look at any challenges that may be affecting a child’s ability to learn new concepts, complete assignments, manage social interactions, regulate their emotions, mood, and behavior, and more.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM A COMPASS EVALUATION?

Compass Evaluations are an invaluable tool for any school-aged child who is struggling with school performance, behavior management, mental health, or social relationships, or who seem to function differently from their same-aged peers. For younger children, a developmental behavioral pediatric assessment will better meet their needs.

How is A COMPASS EVALUATION DIFFERENT FROM OTHER ASSESSMENTS?

Not only do Compass Evaluations integrate the collective knowledge and diverse experience of two clinicians, they also can usually be scheduled within a matter of weeks - a stark contrast from the yearlong (or longer) waiting list at other institutions.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE DIAGNOSED IN A COMPASS EVALUATION?

Using a variety of diagnostic tools, psychoeducational testing, classroom evaluations, and more, Dr. Cleary and Dr. Palmiotto are able to identify and offer therapeutic recommendations for any combination of the following:

  • Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

  • Autism spectrum disorder

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Executive function weakness

  • Sensory processing challenges

  • Dyslexia

  • Dyscalculia

  • Dysgraphia

  • Other learning, behavioral, and/or developmental disorders

WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR COMPLETING A COMPASS EVALUATION?

The process begins when you submit the intake form found at the bottom of this page. Upon receipt of this form, Dr. Cleary reviews the information provided, and reaches out to you to discuss the types of testing that will most benefit your child, as well as the associated costs. Most Compass Evaluations combine a developmental behavioral pediatric assessment with Dr. Cleary and psychoeducational testing with Dr. Palmiotto. Upon completion of the evaluation, Dr. Cleary and Dr. Palmiotto will present a detailed report of their findings, including any diagnoses, recommendations for follow-up care, suggested school accommodations where applicable, and resources and strategies for the family to support their child’s success.

HOW MUCH DOES A COMPASS EVALUATION COST?

Because evaluations are personalized to the needs of each child, Compass Evaluations are billed at a rate of $200 per hour, in most cases requiring between 10-20 hours, based on complexity. After your initial consultation, you will receive a more defined estimate of the time it will take for your child’s evaluation. (Please note that Compass Evaluations are not covered by insurance, although documentation will be provided on request to families wishing to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance company.)

HOW CAN I SCHEDULE A COMPASS EVALUATION FOR MY CHILD?
