Developmental Assessments

A Developmental Behavioral Specialist evaluates children who have developmental, behavioral, and learning differences when compared to their same-aged peers. Here at Parker Place, Dr. Myra Cleary offers assessments and follow-up care to children and adolescents with these differences, including the following:

  • Developmental Coordination Disorder

  • Learning disorders

  • Oppositional behavior

  • Transition planning

  • ADHD

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Developmental delays

  • Sensory processing disorders

  • Executive function weakness

If you and/or your child’s teacher, caregiver, or pediatrician have had concerns about your child’s development or behavior, an assessment with Dr. Cleary can help to identify and diagnose specific conditions or challenges that may be present.

Dr. Cleary can then provide documentation of these diagnoses, along with specific recommendations and resources to help you support your child’s future growth and development.

HOW THE ASSESSMENT WORKS

Developmental pediatric assessments with Dr. Cleary are generally completed over the course of two separate sessions, each approximately 45 minutes in length, and usually scheduled 1-3 weeks apart. (Please note: session length may vary based on your child’s age and specific needs, and Dr. Cleary will let you know if a different scheduling model is recommended.)

Prior to your first session, you’ll complete a set of intake forms online, to enable Dr. Cleary to get to know your child’s health, educational, and social history, as well as the scope of your concerns. We also ask that you fax or email our office copies of any previously completed assessments or evaluations, so that Dr. Cleary may review them before meeting with your family.

During the assessment itself, Dr. Cleary will utilize various activities and diagnostic tools to engage with your child and to screen for various developmental, behavioral and learning issues. In the latter part of your second session, she will review her findings with you. Shortly after that second session is complete, you will receive documentation of any diagnoses made, as well as Dr. Cleary’s report with recommended next steps - these might include suggestions for your child’s IEP/504 plan, behavior interventions, or other follow-up care. She may also suggest other providers (such as a gastroenterologist, endocrinologist, neurologist, psychologist, and/or physical/occupational/speech therapist) based on your child’s needs.

DEVELOPMENTAL PEDIATRIC ASSESSMENT COST

Dr. Cleary’s fee for the two-session Developmental Behavioral Pediatric assessment is $850, which covers both sessions, diagnostic tools (if used), and Dr. Cleary’s documentation. Please click here to view the insurances with which Dr. Cleary is currently in network. For families paying out-of-pocket but whose insurance includes out-of-network benefits, we are happy to provide documentation for your reimbursement request.

Follow-Up CARE

For some families, receiving the documented diagnoses allows them access to various support services within the school or community, and any follow-up can be managed by the child’s pediatrician or other recommended specialists, depending on diagnosis. Other families may wish to follow up with Dr. Cleary to continue to monitor their child’s growth and development. To learn more about follow-up appointments with Dr. Cleary, please click here.
