Telemedicine Appointments

In an effort to comply with best practices for reducing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Parker Place has adapted our office operations to protect everyone’s health and safety. One of the ways we’re doing this is by offering telemedicine visits, where appropriate, for your appointment.

What are telemedicine appointments?

Your child’s provider will “meet” with the patient (and parent/guardian, if the patient is a minor) via video chat. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss any symptoms or concerns, ask questions, and set healthy goals going forward - the same kinds of things that are covered in a traditional, in-person appointment. These virtual visits are a great way to ensure the consistency of your child’s health care, and support their continued progress toward better health, during this unique period of social distancing.

What technology is needed for a telemedicine appointment?

All you need is a mobile phone with a browser (Google Chrome on Android or Safari on iOS 12+). You can also use a desktop computer or laptop computer with a webcam and Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, or Firefox.

Are Telemedicine Appointments covered by Insurance?

While many insurance companies expanded their coverage of telemedicine visits in 2020 as an option for health care during the COVID-19 pandemic, some of those same insurance companies are now rolling back that benefit as medical offices start to re-open, and are underpaying (or even denying) claims for telemedicine appointments. If you have questions about your insurance benefits for telemedicine services, we encourage you to contact them for clarification. Remember, per our office’s financial policies (as is the case with virtually all medical facilities), you are responsible for any claims that are denied by, or otherwise unpaid by, your insurance company.

How do I check in for a telemedicine appointment?

A few minutes before your scheduled appointment time, our staff will call you to ensure you are able to access the video link for the appointment, as well as to verify your child’s information and collect any co-pay that may be due. Once you click the video link and log in, you’ll be in a “virtual waiting room” where the provider will join you as soon as she is ready.

After the appointment, you’ll receive an email from our staff with the same documentation you would have received in person: a patient care summary letter, any lab/imaging orders, instructions, and any relevant resources. We’ll also let you know when the provider would like to see your child again so that you can schedule that follow-up appointment at your convenience.

How do I schedule a telemedicine appointment?

If you are interested in a telemedicine appointment for your child, please call our office directly and we’ll be happy to assist you!
